Pat Harper, MS, RD, LDN
Pat Harper is a food and nutrition consultant to public relations firms, corporations, food companies, and the restaurant and hospitality industries. Her focus is to help people to lose weight and improve health through educating, motivating and inspiring them to choose, prepare and enjoy healthful foods. For over 30 years, she has specialized in weight management, having developed and implemented weight loss and wellness programs, conducted weight loss research studies, and as a weight loss counselor. She serves as a member of the work group to develop the weight management EAL guidelines for the Academy. Pat is author of Change One for Diabetes, based on research at the University of Pittsburgh that utilized her successful approach to long-term weight loss.
Her background includes coordinator of several weight loss, diabetes intervention research studies at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Medicine, including Lead Interventionist with Look AHEAD study, she owned a catering business where she developed recipes, managed customer relations, operations and sales, served as a spokesperson for several companies, and was adjunct nutrition instructor at Penn State University for over 8 years.
Pat has extensive media experience, as a former national spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for nine years. She was a founding member of the WM DPG and served as External Relations Director for the WM DPG for over 8 years. She is currently the Weight Management DPG delegate to the Academy House of Delegates.
