Catherine M. Champagne, PhD, RDN, LDN, FADA, FAND, FTOS

Catherine Champagne is Professor/Chief, Nutritional Epidemiology/Dietary Assessment and Counseling, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge, LA. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Society for Nutrition, The Obesity Society, American Diabetes Association, and American Heart Association. Her interests are women and children’s health, diet for weight loss and chronic disease, Mediterranean diet approaches, physical activity promotion, nutritional assessment of diverse populations, cancer prevention/treatment and functional foods. She is involved in studies which include dietary counseling and/or dietary intake assessment, and participated in many NIH-funded trials as site intervention director, including DPP, Look AHEAD, DASH, PREMIER, Weight Loss Maintenance, POUNDS LOST, and countless others. One of her significant achievements was the final design of the DASH diets. Currently in her 27th year at Pennington she has maintained a long history of funding from the Department of Defense, NIH-NIDDK and NHLBI, and USDA. One new major project is an affiliation with the Louisiana Department of Education, Nutrition Support, which involves development of a new website for Child Nutrition Programs throughout the state, along with trainings and support for administrative reviews.

Dr. Champagne received her PhD in Nutrition from Mississippi State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Food Science at Louisiana State University.
