Anne Wolf, MS, RD
Anne Wolf, MS, RD is a leader in food, nutrition and weight management. She received her Bachelor degree in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University and a Master's in Behavioral Sciences from the Harvard School of Public Health. Anne became a registered dietitian after completing her nutrition and dietetics internship at Rhode Island Hospital. She is actively engaged in research, clinical practice, employee wellness and business development.
Research: Anne began her research career in obesity with the Harvard Medical School’s Nurses’ Health Study, one of the largest and most significant studies ever conducted in nutrition and health. Focusing on the economic impact of obesity and the cost effectiveness of weight management, Anne has authored over 50 scientific papers, abstracts and book chapters and has spoken internationally at professional meetings and educational symposium. She was the principal investigator (PI) and Co PI of the Improving Control with Activity and Nutrition (ICAN) Trials—two clinical trials that evaluated the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy and lifestyle change programs for people with obesity and diabetes. She was awarded the Excellence in Research from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2010 and from the Weight Management Dietary Practice Group in 2011.
Counseling & Coaching: Anne maintains a clinical practice as well. Anne is a certified wellness coach and enjoys inspiring individuals and groups to greater wellness. She was the Director of Nutrition for the Woman’s Place at the University of Virginia Health System. She speaks regularly and has given over 200 presentations to lay audiences. Currently, she sees clients privately, in groups and within local physician offices in the Charlottesville, Virginia area.
Corporate Wellness: Anne has been involved in employee wellness and has helped insurance companies and employers set up cost effective weight management programs for high-risk employees. She has worked with Cigna, advised Blue Cross/Blue Shields of North Carolina and Coventry HealthCare of Virginia. She helped develop and now runs the Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program for the local county government employees. The program has been so effective that she has helped translate it to other local major employers (University of Virginia, SAW Employer Consortium). To better measure and track effectiveness of this program, Anne developed WM SNAP?, a systematic and evidence-based approach to collecting, analyzing and reporting health and behavioral outcomes for weight management programs.
Business: Anne has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and has not only maintained her private practice and WM SNAP? but also was a founding developer of The Healthy Gourmet, a healthy fast food restaurant chain concept in the early 1990s, and BMIQ, an evidence-based, healthy lifestyle program that is delivered by RDs to groups via the web.
Volunteer & Awards: Anne has remained actively involved in public policy and volunteer work in the area of obesity and nutrition. She was the Chair of The Obesity Society’s TOOLS Task force, a member of the World Health Organization’s panel on cost effectiveness of physical activity, and a member of two Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) panels on the economic impact of obesity and physical activity. She has served on numerous scientific advisory panels regarding obesity and has served on two Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic Evidence Analysis Project panels. She was a recipient of Cornell Tradition Fellowship, a scholarship for excellence in work, service and academic scholarship, and is the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year for Massachusetts in 1992-93. She was awarded the Excellence in Research from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2010 and from the Weight Management Dietary Practice Group in 2011. She was Chair of the Weight Management DPG from 2014-15.
For Fun: Anne is a certified instructor and holds a Black Belt in Nia (Neuromuscular Integrative Action), an expressive body-mind movement form that is fun while achieving cardiovascular fitness. She has been teaching 2-5 classes a week since 1998.
