Dietetics Career Development Guide
Now Available on the Academy's Website

The Dietetics Career Development Guide is now available on the Academy website. The Guide uses the Dreyfus Model of Skill Acquisition to illustrate how a practitioner can increase levels of knowledge and skill throughout a career. Through life-long learning and professional development, practitioners acquire and develop skills that lead to increased competencies and levels of practice.

The Council on Future Practice has created a web page to provide members with the Dietetics Career Development Guide, definitions of terms used in the Guide, definition of focus area of practice, specialist practice and advanced practice.

About Michele

I am the Director of Curriculum for Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Much of my current focus is in nutrition and preventive health, curriculum design and management, educational technology, e-learning, and website development in support of health education. I hold a PhD in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition Science from Emory University, a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics from Georgia State University, and a BS in Engineering Sciences from Aurora University. I completed my postdoctoral work at Emory University in cell nutrient biology while receiving additional training as a health educator. After leaving Emory University, I served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition at Georgia State University (GSU), where I taught undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses and conducted my research in tailored web-based weight intervention programs. In addition to my responsibilities at GSU, I also served as a Health Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity in Atlanta, GA. My work at the CDC included “translational” research, which focused on evaluating the most current research in the area of overweight/obesity and chronic disease and summarizing the findings in written materials targeted for health professionals and the lay public. I also served as the Chair of the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group, a 4,800+ member subgroup of the American Dietetic Association specializing in weight management.
