Public Policy decisions related to WMDPG can have a direct and immediate impact on individuals we serve. Therefore, one of our many goals is to become involved in the decision making process and make our views known to local, state and federal government officials. Becoming an “active” citizen is one of the best ways to protect the interests and priorities of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its members.
First and most importantly, do your homework. Visit the Academy’s Public Policy section and educate yourself on current nutrition policies. Be sure to research solutions that will promote the targeted and strategic goals of The Academy.
Identify your elected officials and take action. Letters, emails, phone calls, and scheduled visits are all viable and effective ways to communicate our commitment to our discipline’s challenges and goals. Useful, professional information may help officials clarify positions. Make yourself available for open discussions and become a resource for communities in which we serve.
